The Month of Ancestors
A few weeks ago, I started my months-long ‘progress’ around this tiny island. After the kiln-level heat of London, I’ve so far had a foray into Birmingham and longer stops in calm and cooler Wales and Herefordshire, where the land still remembers the feel of rain and the skies are visibly starlit at night...next, Oxfordshire, then Scotland and after that a hop across to Ireland.
I’m doing a lot of living in the moment and ever more relinquishing what I have always thought I was supposed to do while following the path my intuition opens ahead of me. Yikes. I'm letting go of chasing certainty and stability - they don't want me to catch them and I am tired of running. Double yikes!
Even so, it’s not just me... we’re all surfing the ethereal energies now and we all have to remind ourselves to get some rest when we can. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been reflecting on what nurtures and nourishes me. Very Chiron in Taurus, very mindful.
As the weather cools and days shorten here in the Northern Hemisphere, I’m looking ahead to October, the last month of autumn before winter truly sets in.
At the top of the list is how central my ancestors are to understanding my gifts, as well as how I connect to the land and its flora and fauna. To cut a long story short, I’m hosting a workshop on Working with Your Ancestors in October.
It seems October festivities are dominated by Halloween, Samhain, All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day and Día de los Muertos/Miccailhuitontli...where the old ways have met the new ways of Christianity, changing elements of many of these festivals to match the Gregorian calendar. There are many different traditions of ancestor memorialisation in different cultures at various times of the year; Obon, Pitru Paksha, 鬼月 (Guǐ Yuè), or even moon phase, Hoaka. But more and more, especially in some cartomancy spaces, I’ve heard October referred to as the month of ancestors.
It’s the time of the year when we perceive the veil between our seen and unseen worlds to be thinnest, and everything in the outer world is beginning to urge us to go inwards.
What better time of year to review, renew or initiate your own ancestral practice?
In the Working with Your Ancestors workshop this October, that’s what I am aiming to help you do!
Across the three sessions we’ll be:
developing awareness of who our ancestors are and how we can approach building a relationship with them
developing awareness of how we and our ancestors are related to our physical world
exploring how to work with your ancestors in a way and on a timescale that suits your lifestyle
focusing your intentions and attention so that after the workshop you're equipped to keep walking your path with confidence.
You’ll need to bring:
an open mind
a willingness to share a little with the group as the sessions will be interactive
a notebook – physical or digital
anything you currently use or would be interested in using when you think about your connection to your family and/or ancestors
I’m scheduling it two ways:
a standalone three-hour workshop on Sunday 11 October 2026 from 2-5pm
a weekly one-hour session on Sunday evening at 6pm for three weeks; 4+11+18 October 2026.
The content will be the same, but IMHO the spacing across three weeks works best for reflection between sessions.
Group size needs to be intimate, potentially 4/5 maximum but possibly smaller. I’m not sure what the wider appetite is to commit to this kind of workshop, but the timing feels right. In any case, I’m all about bespoke.
If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, please forward on this information. I'm not on socials like IG or FB so this will be interesting!
You can check the times and book here or use the QR code below. If you're interested but the timing doesn't work, let me know.
As always, you can hit reply, and I’ll answer any questions you might have.
What even is time. LOL. Photo by Donald Wu on Unsplash Hello Reader, This one is really just a bit of a natter. If you’ve somehow managed to avoid all the talk about the choreography of the sky ballet right now or avoided feeling any of the energy shifts, then this might not land. I think it reads like a reflection made during mid-flight turbulence with the seatbelt sign on. You know how they say everyone believes in God on an aeroplane… Cx Stardust and clock poems You may have heard me...
Cate Asks Cartomancy Dear Reader Hello London! It’s hot out here in these streets. Drink water and stay safe now, you hear?! How does the air feel around you? Late spring in London feels like mid-July right now. It’s tempting to attribute the energetic shift to the changing seasons: spring handing off to summer, ready to take over....
